1/3 & 1/2 Motors: The fan/motor assembly has to have enough power to move hot or cold air ( and cold air is heavier so it requires more power to move the same amount of air )
With the new digitally contolled motors, the motors make less noise while at higher horsepowers and pulling more amperage while still using much less, 50% to 90% less as claimed. Using the Kill-O-Watt meter we bought at Radio Shack definately showed that they use way less power. This % rate depends on how many HEPA filters and how high you need to turn the fan setting on to get the right blow rate. If their are more filters, it will have to be turned on higher. Either way, these are the cheapest to run, most quiet. The goal is to have the highest CFU while having a motor that will overcome the wind resistance of Hepa and carbon filters while keeping the noise down and not drawing in too much amperage and using too much electricity. The Pure Air has a Merv Rating of 8. I usually don't promote the ones that have MERV ratings over 9 as much as they start out good but and drop later unless it has a big enough fan and motor to power through it. The more the rating the more the effiecient the purifier is and the more the dust gets caked up on the filter surface but the efficiency of the Hepa is higher as it loads up with pollutants but the resistance goes up as well. The Mervs that are higher, some are 10 and 11 that sell good but they have to be changed way more often than the 8's and 9's Merv, just about once a month you gotta change them. This is for serious clean room type filters, industrial ones. The 8's have to be changed about every 3 months, just like on a TRACS.

Some Hepa Air Purifiers are more expensive than others. The reason is that if the Merv is over 8 or 9, they have to have a bigger motor and have to keep the noise down so people dont return them. It is odd when there is an 8 merv purifier selling for super expensive. That is a red flag to me right there. The frames have to be tigher on them also so their is no leaks. Cheaper ones don't have to have better components to seal it as they have much lower CFU rates.
Note: The Pure Air and Oransi models do not use standard induction motors

Induction motors seem to be what is replacing most of the high end motors out there. The ECM motors use much less electricity and are DC motors, not AC motors. (see my air purifier motor review here).

I talked to one of my first few people who called me and they said the Pure Air industrial models is what they use. Most people that call me about the Pure air ever since I have been advetising my site are industrial and commercial customers that are not calling about their residential model. I have not seen their military grade models but I assume that their residential models are micro versions of their huge high end models.

The cool thing about them is that more carbon or more Hepa filters can be added so you onlyget the resistance that you need and if you need more filters, its your choice and expense can be higher or lower depending on your needs. Some people only put carbon and others only Hepa and some both. Most companies don't give that option.

The manufactures site is PureAirSystems.com and they are known in the industry as PAS air purifiers. Their number is 1800-869-8025 if you want to learn about their purifiers. In 2014 I will be adding a store page on my site as everybody wants to buy from me but I am not set up yet to fulfill orders and take payments. I barely have enough time to continue finishing my review site.
The Airgle removes particles as low as .01 microns but takes more than just the 1 amp that Tracs takes to push the same air. The others come in close, including Airpura which is probably the best overall air purifer on the market that I tested. Airpura beats almost every air purifier in the testes that I did, especially the carbon. It goes neck and neck with the Oransi as far as carbon quality is concerned.

The Airpura and Airgle have been my two most popular high end sellers. Austin Air was my most popular in the price range just a little lower. TheTracs brand won just about every coparison test in the small room comparison or low CFU rate models. Many people bought 2 Tracs instead of one really powerful one and no one has ever returned a Tracs or an Airpura so far. A few for the Airgle cuz it was too noise but very few. IF you want the power of an Airgle and get that .01 micron rate, just deal with the noise.

I really didnt sell the BlueAir as everyone seems to have a 20% off coupon to Bed bath and beyond and usually are gonna buy it there anyway. So I just told people to go there any pick it up locally and save on the shipping as its free shipping if its in the store and they can pick it up.

The New model is the HPS350 and HPS 500 from Pureairsystems.com. This is the one I have been testing and looks as if it has the quality of the top Oransi, Airgle, and Airpura models in the high CFU residiential models.

Just like the Oransi German motors, the Pure Air also has the GE ECM motors. The Pure Air company has been making industrial and military grade purifiers and do not advertise so in the last 5 years, this is the first time I heard about them. They don't advertise which is cool but don't understand why. Since 1985, they have been mking only commercial grade and now residential. Probabably why I have not heard of them as I focus more on residential models.

The Pure Air has hte most digital components and digital speed controls making it super efficient. They are also Energy Star rated and comply with their ratings. Jut like the Oransi, this uses the least amount of electricity to run. It is super quiet with its heavy gauge steal frame (around 16 guage).

Note: I still do know who was really first to put in the digital motors. The Oransi has been selling their German Digitally controlled speed motor while Pure Air claims they were the first to add the biggestexpense to their purifiers and put in GE ECM digital motors. It doesn't matter to me who was first but when
If you havent seen my air purifier motor page,
read my motor comparison page here.

For anhyone that wants the Pure Air brand mention my site unit I get my store page up and running. I have asked them to give you a discount if they know you aren't already working with one of their dealers.

Their number is 800 869 8025. Everyone over their is educated and not just sales reps reading off a computer screan readding off specs.

High End Air Purifier brands
Oransi Performance

Oransi filter
Pure filter
The Pure has a certified Hepa filter and the Oransi is a better than Hepa filter although its a high Merv filter. Neither are "Hepa Like". Each of their Hepa filters are made by hand and hand folded, warm folded actually. The Hepa in the Purea aire is 277 square feet and the Oransi 195 square feet. The Hepa fins are pushed much more closer together in the some models to give it more surface area. The folds are wedged in tighter and the fins (folds) may have more resistance and decrease performance if they are too tightly wedged together. You can have 500 swaure feet of Hepa and if its so tight that air can't contact all the surface area and the fan is not powerful enough to power through it and the noise is too loud on its highest settings, most people don't like it. The 600 model has 63 decibels on high while pushing way more air than most smaller ones.

Oransi Carbon
Pure Carbon
The Oransi has the V shaped system giving it more surface area. They have a huge frame and supports the extra surface (12 by 24 and 11 1/2 inch deep with its v shape panel. This gives it more surface area and gives less resistance while giving the most contact. A 15 lb carbon filter can purifier more than a 20 lb carbon filter if the surface area is higher although it would have to be changed more often since its doing more work
The 600hs+ portable, it can have 4 cartridges of carbon (each carbon cartridge has 4 to 4.5 lbs each. So 16 lbs but no hepa filter or you can make the entire thing a Hepa filter and no carbon.
The 600 is about 30% more powerful than the 500 model (1700 square feet vs 2500) The 500 model weighs 28 lbs while the 600 around 100 lbs. It has also about 1/3 more Hepa. The 500 model is 500cfm while the 600 model can go over 600cfm if the 1/2 hp motor instead of the 1/3 hp motor is replaced. The 500 model, depending on which filters are put in, in actuallity has a 450 to 485 CFM with 500 cfm just bare motor speed.
The 600 model has 4 1/2lbs of carbon but it has a bigger surface area with its 3 feet tall purifier. It is not the amount or pounds of carbon, its the surface area. But the carbon filter has to be changed out more often but I keep in mind that I am changing 4 lbs each time instead of 15 lbs like on some of them.

Oransi Fan
Pure Fan
The 600 model has a bigger fan than the500 model, about double the size. It also has less pitch than the smaller model that has a higher pitch with a smaller fan. The sound is around 63 decibles but it also is pushing OVER 600 cfm. 63dB is about the sound of a light coversation on the phone loudness. The fin types on its medal fan makes it make less noise. At 600cfm its making aboutt hte same noise that the smaller air purifiers make at much less cfm.

These have metal fans, not plastiic. Depending how good the plastic fan is balanced, it can snap or get lose. The Pure Air fans have zero weldings. They are one piece fans that are punched out fins and the are angled for the pitch. Its like one big hampster wheel, like a solid piece of sheet medal that punches the fins out and is bent to proper pitch and curve dimensions. The blower wheels must be balanced(the thing that HAS THE FIN ON IT). The fans on the 600 moves counter clockswise and the 1200 model it moves clockwise. I thought that was interested when I tested them.

Oransi Motor
Pure Motor
The avg motor cost in most purifiers cost about 25 to 30 dollars on the net. The EC and German motor in the Oransi and Pure costs around 200 to buy almost everywhere on the internet. With the speed controls it can cost about 350.
They both have DC motors and both are the quietest motors and most effiecent motors you can get. The Pure motor is built in the states while Oransi in Germany. The motors in the Pure Air come with 1/3 hp but most people upgrade them to the 1/2 HP. Its 100 dollars. The cfm wihtout the filters in it is 600 but really gives about 510 with all filters in it. The 500 model instead of its "up to 500" rating, depending on the filter, gives in reality about 410 cfm. The Hepa gives it more resistance than the carbon. The 1200 model has a 3/4 hp motor and it can be upgrade to a 1hp motor. A 1HP motor cannot fit in the 600 model.

Oransi Costs
Pure Costs
The 600 model has to be changed every 3 months for its pre filter, the carbon about every year and its Hepa every 2 1/2 to 3 years. The carbon costs 54 from them and their hepa filter is $164. The Oransi's 24 lb Hepa filter costs 295 to change it. Many people buy the Pure Air 500 model and have to change the pre filter/carbon combo every month to 3 months (costs 48 a 6 pack.. 8 bucks a month. The cost to get a 1/2 hp motor is 100 dollars. It make it just a little louder but gives it a CFM boost if you need the purifier to work harder. The motor gets warmer but because its a direct drive, the air blows on the motor and cools it down quicker so it can be run all day long.

Oransi Performance
Pure Performance
400 CFU with 15 lbs of carbon and 20 lbs of hepa filter VS 500 CFU with 8 lbs of carbon and 5 lbs of Hepa filters.. This is why I am redoing all my comparison chart by the way. Every filter is different. One might give the purifer 400 CFU while the other 430 CFU so I redoing my comparison chart. The merv on the Pure Air adds much more resistance but is counteracted with the high surface area of the 600 model (277 square feet of Hepa surface) and 195 square feet on the Oransi. (note that this depends on how many folds it has and can vary slightly).
The merv on the PUrea air is rated from 18 to 20 merv. The filters with little resistance working with small fans and low horse power motors usually ahve a merv of 8 to 9. These possibly are not true Hepa filters unless they say certified on them from the company that makes them. Usually it can be shown if the motor is too small to back it up if it can have such a high CFM and a merv so high. The 600 model definately has the motor and fan size to back it up.

I will say that the ultimate air purifier is not just one. Having a fully loaded Oransi Hepa and a seperate Oransi Carbon purifier hands down is beats any system out there but also is too expensive for most people. Having 2 German motors and two huge fans and that much filtration media nothing can go against unless its the 5495 model from a medical company in Georgia which delivers true clean room air. 1 micron instead of 3 microns. It also weights over 200 lbs. The Pure Air 600 model is my 2nd best option for the high end purifier if two purifiers are not being combined. The 600 model beats almost every model in its class based on my testing. The 1200 model is just overkill unless the home is 2500 square feet. The Oransi plus model has a great Hepa but the carbon is just enough for light odor, nothing like their dedicated carbon model with its huge surface area.

The latest model that I tested was the HPS 500 by Pure Air. A lot of people are calling and askig why the 600 model weights around 100 lbs and the 500 model only about 28 lbs. The 500 model has a new micro pleat filter, no alluminum seperators. There is a super strong material that does not leach that they are using to hold the Hepa material closer together. It is a super expensive way to build the Hepa filter and make it fit in a small frame with this sticky synthetic. The micro pleating process allows the air purifier to fit a smaller filter in a small air purifier. The entire purifier weighs only 30 lbs. The  filter is only 12 by 12 by 6 inches deep. Normaly, if it was aluminum, it would need to be 12 inches deep, double the length. It takes about 3 times as much weight to add aluminum instead of this sticky material. The Hepa filter in the 500 model weighs about 5 to 6 lbs. The aluminum version in their 600 model weighs 20 lbs.
