ECONOMY RATINGS

A good air purifier has long filter life. Depending on how much you are filtering a good filter might to small for your area also. Some purifiers are made better to hold in more and others lets smaller particles pass through.

It is not as economical when you have to change filters more than you should have to. There is an equilibrium point where the cost of some filters are so high that it outweighs the cost of cheaper filters that have to be changed more often. So, when you just see an expensive filter, it might be because it has to be replaced less often. It is hard for the naive consumer to know this stuff and really study every filter without having talked to people that have had them in different environments.

Most people have to rely on the advice from a sales person and it is hard to sometimes tell who really knows how to compare them and who is just trying to quickly sell you something. How can a sales rep really know your needs when all they are doing is reading off the specs on a sheet of paper or helping you compare them by comparing their brand to the specs of the competitors brand when all they are doing is going on the manufacturer's site and comparing. I never did this. I dissected them. I took them apart. I weighed things. I tapped on things to see how solid they were. When people complained about them, I had them send me their purifiers and I figured out what was wrong. I have an engineer that helps me when I have questions so I know that I am never over my head when giving advice.

If buying a HEPA air purifier, for example, it is more economical to have to change the filters less. But, some are so expensive that it costs the same as replacing it two times as replacing cheaper ones five times.
There are also companies that will sell you an air purifier really cheap and have a special sale on the filters the day you buy the purifier but after that, their filter prices are outrageously priced and you cannot use any other filter but theirs. So, what happened is they sold you a purifier with the same specs as a more expensive one up front but they don't tell you how much the filters will cost at their regular price. These often aren't the big name brands and are usually the companies that only last for a very short time and go out of business. Worse than overpaying for filters is if they go out of business and you can't get filters at all. So, be aware of these cheap loss leader pitches.

When referring to the economy ratings of your electricity bill please know that any purifier using 100 watts or more is going to be expensive to run unless you get the chips to stick on the plug. All you need is one chip. They are 1 dollar each and a lot of people sell them. When the power is redirected and a right spin is put on the flow, whatever it does it works. You can also get the Energy Star rating of the air purifiers at each speed setting.

If energy consumption is an issue for you please let me know on my air questionnaire. I will do my best to find the air system that is powerful enough for your needs that uses the least amount of electricity.
